I thought it was something like that. Cheers Mike.

RAF, his then bird was the one who made Tilbrook respond to Difford's advert in a local shop

Re: Favourite Squeeze single?
"Up the Junction" is the only UK Top 40 single ever to have its title in its lyrics, yet sung last. And only once.

I THINK that's a fact. And admirably showboating.

Pub quiz stuff.

Without trawling through it, wasn't his girlfriend a big influence on some of the songs in the early days?

Really good documentary.

They supported Bryan Adams in the early 90's at Portman Road. The crowd around us were awful and didn't enjoy them at all. Apart from one bloke singing along to the songs. That would be me.

Re: Favourite Squeeze single?
I think a lot of their songs actually tell a story. Labelled with Love and Up the Junction for example. Really good lyricists.

Glen Tilbrook played at a mate of mines 50th birthday.
Unbelievably talented bloke and an absolute diamond.

They stood around the kettle and watched as it brewed
Sneezing into hankies hands all blue
The next evening he came around to the house
With a bunch of flowers, they locked him out

He peered through the window, mouthed words in the air
Her lips to a cup, she saw him out there
The kids came running but were they happy to see
Their Daddy back home on King George Street

Re: Favourite Squeeze single?
For weirdest single, try King George Street - no discernible time signature, bizarre chords, key changes, during their weird mid-80s phase. How anyone ever thought it was a single at all is bizarre!

Christmas Day is their best xmas single :).

Up the Junction

My elder sister played it over and over on the record player and its melted into my brain.

Re: Favourite Squeeze single?
"Last Night Forever" is a good song ruined by 80s fretless bass and drum machine crap. But as murder songs go, it's a good one.

Chris Difford has a terrible stutter... except when he sings. Fact. Tilbrook is as good a guitarist/melody writer the UK has ever produced.

"45s and Under" Squeeze hits album is pretty much faultless. Great band.

Re: Favourite Squeeze single?
Glenn Tilbrook lives 2 mins away from me in Charlton. Sometimes plays in a band with his sons at the Thames Barrier pub just before Squeeze gigs, very good.

Always liked Pulling Mussels from a shell

Best single .... Up the junction ... Nothing like it at the time Tilbrooks voice superb like chocolate velvet! Weirdly was the least fave track they played!

I cannot believe that 43 posts into this thread no one has mentioned "Black Coffee in Bed".

Just looked it up, you're right. Over 30 years I'd got it wrong.
